Lillian Fish - The Recorder

Lillian Fish, 97, of Rural Grove, NY entered eternal life peacefully on October 4 at Palatine Nursing Home.

Mrs. Fish was born in Yonkers, NY on July 18, 1923 the daughter of William and Eleanor Diehl. In 1942 Lillian moved with her parents and sister, Eleanor, to a farm in the town of Charleston where she met her future husband, Gilbert Fish, whom she married on October 3, 1942.

Shortly thereafter Gilbert and Lillian bought a tract of land in Rural Grove and together they built their home which remained Lillian’s home until her admittance to Palatine Nursing Home in 2016. The only child of Gilbert and Lillian, a daughter, Patricia Fish Benton, was born on February 14, 1948 and died on May 5, 2004. Lillian’s husband, Gilbert, and Lillian’s three sisters, Eleanor, Dorothy, and Anna also predeceased Lillian.

Lillian Fish is survived by her first cousins, Albert Sakowicz of Canajoharie and John Sakowicz of Venice, FL; nieces, Mona Langevin of Chicopee, MA, Donna Weaver of Vernon, CT, Brenda Ranslow of Wethersfield, CT, Wilma Sutherland of Rockville, CT, Betsy and Mike Reksc of Northville, NY.

A graveside memorial service at the Glen Village Cemetery will be held on Friday, October 23 at 11:30 a.m., fellowship to follow at the Rural Grove Firehouse. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Company or Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, Inc.
