With the start of the new month, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can expect more than holiday events and gifts. December will also bring a few new bugs, deep-sea creatures, and fish to players' islands. Animal Crossing has always incorporated a real-time game mechanic that allows players to celebrate holidays and experience seasons in the game just as they do in real life. Because winter will begin this month in the Northern hemisphere, players there won't be seeing as many new critters. However, as the Southern hemisphere prepares for summer, many new fish will migrate to their warmer island waters.
There are 80 species of fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Of these, 32 can be caught in the Northern hemisphere in December, and five of them are new on December 1. The other 55 can be caught in the Southern hemisphere in December, and 14 are new on December 1. Players can catch these new critters to donate to Blathers to complete the Museum collection or sell to Timmy and Tommy at Nook's Cranny for a few extra bells that can be used to get gifts for friends and residents during the Toy Day celebration. Here's every new fish coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in December.

For the first time in the Southern hemisphere, sharks will make their way to ocean waters. These creatures are easy to spot by their fin in the water. The new fish are:
- Giant Snakehead: Uncommon; Found in the Pond; Large shadow size; Active 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Available December to February; Worth 5,500 bells.
- Ribbon Eel: Uncommon; Found in the Ocean; Long, Thin shadow size; Active All Day; Available December to April; Worth 600 bells.

- Great White Shark: Rare; Found in the Ocean; Huge shadow with a fin; Active 4 p.m. to 9 a.m.; Available December to March; Worth 15,000 bells.
- Suckerfish: Uncommon; Found in the Ocean; Huge shadow with a fin; Active All Day; Available December to March; Worth 1,500 bells.
- Whale Shark: Scarce; Found in the Ocean; Huge shadow with a fin; Active All Day; Available December to March; Worth 13,000 bells.
Many of these fish are nocturnal, so players in the Southern hemisphere should plan a few late-night fishing trips to catch them all. For sharks, it's a good idea to craft and use as much fish bait as possible to increase the amount of fish that will spawn, thus increasing the player's chances of reeling in a rare one. Players can also turn in their fish to CJ for 30% more bells.
