Pet spot: Harold, a betta fish, is a survivor - Leader Publications

Harold, a betta fish, also known as a Siamese fighting fish, is about 3 1/2 years old. That’s quite a lengthy life for a pet fish, according to the Coleman family of Arnold.

Leavitt Coleman, 14, son of state Rep. Mary Elizabeth Coleman, said Harold once weathered a potentially dangerous intruder in his home.

“One time, my baby brother dropped flour into the bowl, and Harold survived,” Leavitt said.

Harold shows some personality, Leavitt said.

“He’s fun to watch when you feed him. When you drop his food pellets in the bowl, he’ll try to sneak up on them,” Leavitt said. “If you put his food container outside his bowl, sometimes he’ll look at the fish on the container.”

Leavitt said Harold makes a good pet.

“We just have the one fish,” he said. “He’s really easy to take care of.”

PET SPOT invites readers to tell a story about their pets or nonprofit animal adoption agencies to write about an adoptable pet and submit it, plus an attached photo, to news@leaderpublications.biz. Please include a phone number and city of residence for submissions from individuals and contact information for organizations.
