Fish fry season in Michigan is upon us, and while these popular events might not look like they have in the past, many have transformed into efficient to-go operations, or adjusted their dining set up to be in compliance with the current orders. Between these pop-up places, and the many, many restaurants and bars that offer hand made fish fry, we have so far compiled 285 nominations for Michigan’s Best Fish Fry.
Nominations include churches, VFW’s, Knights of Columbus’, tiny town bars, year round restaurants, and seasonal summer spots. We’ve gotten nominations from every part of the state, from the tip of the U.P., all the way down to the southern border. Many of these spots have been serving up great fish fry for years, while others are newer to the scene.
We’ve put together 11 regions, and while we do our very best, selecting what region to place a town in is far from an exact science. If you don’t see your nominee in one region, please check a nearby one. We will be continuing to accept nominations for Michigan’s Best Fish Fry through Sunday February 28 at midnight. Then, we’ll open regional polls for you to vote for your favorites starting March 2. You’ll be able to vote until March 7 at midnight.
The Michigan’s Best team of Amy Sherman and John Gonzalez will be sharing stories from these local hotspots over the next few weeks. We love to hear from readers about what really makes their fish fry special, whether its an incredible recipe for cole slaw, the perfect crispy batter, a talented staff that goes above and beyond, or an interesting history.
