Welcome to Monday’s Marlins (1-2, +2 RD) vs. Cardinals (1-2, -9 RD) game thread.
To those of you with Twitter accounts, we highly recommend voting for Daniel De Vivo in #MarlinsTwitterMarchMadness. He’s one victory away from an improbable championship.
Fish Picks has indeed returned for a third season! After receiving picks from 200-plus unique users in 2020 on fishstripes.com and the @fishstripes Twitter account, we are aiming for even more engagement. It’s always free to participate and the prizes are real.
Fans can find the props within game threads like this one or as the pinned tweet on our Twitter account. They will be posted at least four hours prior to the game’s scheduled first pitch (assuming both the Marlins and their opponent declare a probable starting pitcher by then). Generally, there will be five props per game, four about individual/team stats and the final one always being the moneyline pick (which team will win). Picks are only valid if commented or tweeted to us prior to first pitch.
Your goal every day is to “pick a perfect game” and choose the correct outcome for each prop. Whoever has the most perfect games each month receives a t-shirt of their choice from our partners at Legends of Dade!
The Fish Picks leaderboard will be updated daily.
Cardinals Lineup
- 2B Tommy Edman
- 1B Paul Goldschmidt
- 3B Nolan Arenado
- SS Paul DeJong

- RF Austin Dean
- RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon (2020 season stats: 4.96 ERA, 5.64 FIP, 31.5 K%, 40.8 HardHit% in 32.2 IP)
Notes: The benches cleared in Saturday’s Cardinals-Reds game, but it doesn’t seem like any Cards players are facing suspensions for their actions...Ponce de Leon pitched against the Fish four(!) times during spring training—12.2 IP, 12 H, 6 ER, 7 BB, 12 K...This will be the Cardinals’ first test against a left-handed starting pitcher.
Marlins Lineup
- LF Corey Dickerson
- CF Starling Marte
- 1B Jesús Aguilar
- RF Adam Duvall
- 3B Brian Anderson
- SS Miguel Rojas
- C Jorge Alfaro
- 2B Jon Berti
- LHP Trevor Rogers (2020 season stats: 6.11 ERA, 4.33 FIP, 30.0 K%, 39.5 HardHit% in 28.0 IP)
Notes: As expected Elieser Hernandez (right biceps tendon inflammation) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Garrett Cooper is also unavailable (effects from COVID vaccine), but the COVID IL permits him to return in less than 10 days—whenever he’s feeling well enough to play. In corresponding moves, the Marlins recalled Nick Neidert and Jordan Holloway from the Fish Tank in Jacksonville...Rogers ranked second among all MLB pitchers with 29 strikeouts during spring training. In particular, his slider has taken a tangible step forward. The average spin rate on that pitch surged from 2,021 RPM last season to 2,171 RPM in spring games tracked by Statcast...It’s the first Salute & Serve Day of 2021 and the 28th anniversary of the inaugural Marlins regular season.
How to watch/listen/follow
