The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission recently announced that a 2.98-pound yellow perch pulled from Lake Erie on April 9 had taken over the top spot the species in Pennsylvania.
It topped the existing state record by 2 ounces and the largest yellow perch reported last year by successful anglers. Brinley Kaliszewski, of Edinboro, fishing in Lake Erie on April 6 with a minnow as bait, caught one weighing 2 pounds 7 ounces and measuring 14.5 inches in length with a girth of 10.5 inches. The other top yellow perch in 2020 were Rob Mizikowski, Erie, Lake Erie, April 7, minnow, 2 pounds 1 ounce, 15 inches long, 12.25-inch girth; Jesse Wall, Tamaqua, Rabbit Run Reservoir, August 20, nightcrawler, 1 pounds 8 ounces, 15 inches long, 13-inch girth; and Blaine Hunsinger, Shirleysburg, Lake Erie, August 7, Storm lure, 1 pounds 5 ounces, 15 inches long, 9-inch girth.
